Individually Tailored Care
At The Ulster Spine Centre we recognise that every patient is different and some problems requires a combination of care to restore health, rather than just one therapy alone. To determine which treatment is best suited for the patient, a thorough examination is performed by the doctor and x-rays can be taken if required. Once a diagnosis is reached, the recommended treatment options are discussed with the patient.
Chiropractic
Chiropractic is the 3rd largest health profession in the world and has been recognised in many countries as the preferred treatment for ailments such as back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and more.
The chiropractors at The Ulster Spine Centre are registered professionals who have completed 5 year degrees studying the spine and the nervous system in great detail. They use only safe, gentle techniques to help the spine move better, relieve pain and stiffness, and to help the nervous system function better.
By using evidence-based chiropractic care, patients at the Ulster Spine Centre have reported relief from a wide range of symptoms including: back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, tingling in the hands/arms or feet/legs, disc injuries, colic in babies, abnormal posture and more. Because chiropractic care has such a positive effect on the nervous system, it can make the entire body work better. Some patients have also noticed an improvement in bowel function, breathing (such as asthma), energy levels, stress, immune system, and even fertility. Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is offered at The Ulster Spine Centre for muscular, tendon, or ligament injuries, and to assist in rehabilitating the muscles of the body after injury. Symptoms treated by the physiotherapist include: tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, sprains of the joints (e.g. knee, ankle, wrist), etc.
The physiotherapist can speed a patients recovery from injury by giving them an individually tailored exercise program to strengthen muscles and to encourage better posture. It is always important to know that the problem must be corrected first before strengthening the muscles around it.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a condition that affects young children and adolescents, especially girls. It is commonly a genetic disorder that causes the spine to curve, rather than grow straight. If left untreated, scoliosis can have devastating effects on posture, height, breathing, and the heart, and also cause pain and reduce mobility.
It is so important to detect scoliosis early, as the sooner it is diagnosed, the better the options are for treatment and correction. The Ulster Spine Centre's Jeb McAviney is a registered provider of the SpineCor scoliosis brace, which is a dynamic, light-weight brace that is flexible and virtually invisible under clothing. It has been shown to be 71% more effective that the nearest competitor, the Boston Brace, and is a more acceptable and aesthetically pleasing brace to wear for young children. With early treatment, most cases can be prevented from having spinal surgery. See www.belfastscoliosisclinic.co.uk and www.londonscoliosisclinic.co.uk
Scoliosis also occurs in adults, and there is an adult version of the SpineCor brace which can help reduce pain and improve posture.
